Dr Andrew Somerville is Course Leader for the ESTA MA
A professional saxophonist, he pursues a varied career in music performance and higher education.
His performance experience includes recital, concerto and chamber engagements at Cadogan Hall, the Southbank Center, Wigmore Hall, and music clubs throughout Scotland. He has also worked with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
His academic research generates traditional written outputs, research-led artistic practice, and improved outcomes for learning and teaching.
Andrew is lecturer of saxophone at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he has the privilege of working with an international class of aspiring professional saxophonists.
He has a background teaching in music services, independent schools, outreach projects, and the RCS Junior Conservatoire, and held teaching assistantships while pursuing postgraduate degrees at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois.
He is also a graduate of the Royal College of Music, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the University of Glasgow.
